THE UNITED REPUBLIC OF TANZANIA

Tanzania is the name originated after the uniting of Tanganyika and Zanzibar in sixths. The capital is at Dodoma center of the country and the commercial city in Dar es Salaam in the Indian Ocean coast. Covering 945,087 sq.km over 100,000 is donated to National Parks and Game Reserves. The country is bordered by three great lakes (Tanganyika to the west, Nyasa to the south and Victoria to the north) also Great Rift Valley to the north. Neighborhood countries are Kenya, Uganda to the North, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique to the South, Democratic Republic of Congo to the West and Indian Ocean to the East.

PEOPLE

Mixture of Muslims with high population to the coastal region and Christians to the mainland makes the popular two religions that make Tanzania. Other religions are Hinduism, Pagans and traditional believes. Carrying more that 120 tribes the country is peaceful and people are living happily. Come and learn these different cultures of people of Tanzania.

LANGUAGE

Tanzanians speaks Kiswahili as the National language of which is also spoken by near by countries of Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Congo and Central and South Africa. English is the second language and mostly used in Schools and Offices.

VISAS

Visas are required for all except citizens of the Commonwealth, Scandinavian countries and the Republic of Ireland. Before departure, you can obtain a visa from the Tanzania Embassy. You can also get your visa at our major entry points such as Airports, Sea ports, and borders.

CURRENCY

Tanzania shilling. It is advisable to carry American dollars, Euro, or Pounds. Travellers cheques are exchangeable in some places. Major credit cards are accepted in the larger hotels.

AIPORTS

We have three International airports at Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam. Common airlines include the British Airways and KLM.

HEALTH

Flying doctors are available incase of emergence. We highly recommend taking your personal insurance and contacting your doctor before departure from your home country especially those who will be trekking mountains. The mosquito nets are available in every hotel or lodge but because Malaria is a disease common to tropical countries you are recommended to take anti-malaria tablets. Yellow fever vaccination is very important before entrance to Tanzania.

CLOTHING

For the climbers people visit our Kilimanjaro link here. For safaris in the north, during the day, light clothing. Flat shoes are recommended, canvas hats, at night casual wear with a light cardigan or pull over for altitudes between 1500 m and 2400.
