PEMBA ISLAND

Lying off the east coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean, Pemba is the series island that forms park of Zanzibar archipelago. In the early1960s Zanzibar was united with the former colony of Tanganyika to form Tanzania. It is located approximately 50 kilometers from Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania respectively. Being dominated by Arabs the name Pemba means the green Island famous for its different kind of Spices more than 3 million clove trees within a total area of 980 sq. km.

Pemba is one of the best place in East Africa that has un-spoiled coral reefs and less crowded of which more adventurous are seeking for diving to the lure waters of this Indian

Ocean Coast. The famous towns in Pemba include the Mkoani, Chake Chake and Wete of which Chake Chake is located on a hill with a view on the bay where the tides determine when a dhow can enter the harbor. The same tides where also determined by the Portuguese and Arabs to travel around the World.

The Island is also rich on fishing grounds ideal for fishing games and fertile soil that gives another room for growing different crops apart from cloves which are rice and beans.
