MOUNTAIN KENYA

Mountain Kenya is the highest Mountain in Kenya standing at the altitude of 5,199 m (17,057 ft) making the Second Highest Mountain in Africa after the giant Kilimanjaro. There are seven primary peaks and series of subsidiary cones scattered about its crest. Unlike Kilimanjaro, Mountain Kenya needs very technique climbers to the summit. To climb to the highest peaks-Batian and Nelion, alpine requires ropes, ice-axes and other specialized climbing gear. The two peaks can be attempted by experienced climbers. Non-experienced climbers have managed to reach point Lenana 4,970 meters ( 16,300ft).

The Mountain has four main routes up Lenana and the access to highest peaks of Batian and

Nelion can only be reached by mountaineers with technical skills using three routes: -

Sirimon, Naro Moru, and Chogoria Routes, Mountain Kenya also consists of three distinct zones; the volcanic peak zone, the alpine zone, and lower slopes, with their thick forest and bamboo vegetation.

Animals like buffalo, unusual bongo, elephant, antelope and lion can be found at the bottom of the mountain.
