TSAVO WESTwarthog NATIONAL PARK
It is a part of the Tsavo National Park, which is one of the largest in the World. Named after the Tsavo River, which flows west to east through the national park, it borders the Chyulu Hills National Park, and the Mkomazi Game Reserve in Tanzania.
Unlike Tsavo East the park is hilly, more vegetated and greenish. The park is one of the oldest and largest parks in country at 11,747 square kilometers and located near the village of Voi. The vegetation of the park covers semi-arid grasslands and savanna. Tsavo is more mountainous and known for birdlife and for its large mammals.
Animals found includes the bat-eared fox, greater galago, gazelle, large-spotted genet, small-spotted genet, gerenuk, giraffe, African hare, springhare, cheetah, African Civet, dik-dik, African hunting dog, Blue Duiker, bush duiker, red duiker, eland, African elephant, Coke hartebeest. Over 300 bird species have been recorded in the area, including, secretary birds, buzzards, starlings, weaver birds, kingfishers, hornbills, ostriches, kestrels, and herons. |
