It is located in southwestern Uganda with an area of 321 sq.km. The park hosts roughly half of the world's endangered mountain gorillas and is famous for gorilla tracking. Looking deep into the expressive brown eyes of these gentle giants is surely the most exciting and poignant wildlife encounter that Africa has to offer. The national park has 90 mammal species, including 11 primates, with its lovely flowing white tail, is prominent. The forest birding ranks with the best in Uganda, with 23 highly localized Albertine Rift endemics present.
Bwindi can be reached from Queen Elizabeth national park in the north (2-3 hours), from Kabale to the south (1-2 hours), or from Kampala via Mbarara (6-8 hours). The roads meet at Butogota, 17 km from the Buhoma entrance gate.
Accommodation: Four up market camps, tented camps, a homestead, community run budget rooms and camping is available near the Buhoma entrance.
Day 1: Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable forest National Park via Mbarara and Kabale. Lunch will be had in Mbarara. Arrival in Bwindi is late afternoon. Dinner and overnight Buhoma Community Homestead.
Day 2: Early morning briefing by the Park rangers at 0730 Hrs before entering the Forest along with your packed lunch. Evening at leisure, dinner and overnight Buhoma Community Homestead.
Day 3: Depart for Kampala by 0930 hrs after breakfast stop in Mbarara for lunch and Equator crossing for crafts and Souvenirs. Arrive in Kampala by 1700 hrs.
